Our Philosophy

We are committed to providing a safe secure learning environment, a home away from home where play is honoured and celebrated. Our environment is intentional and engaging, a place where tamariki feel empowered to be themselves.

We take an inclusive and holistic view of our learners as strong, capable, and resilient. Tamariki are given the opportunity to learn through free play, risk-taking, and open-ended exploration, enabling them to discover their own special dispositions and skills while developing independence and agency.

We embrace diversity and acknowledge that each child is unique and strive to instil confidence, self-worth, resilience, and an inquiring mind. Valuing each child as a unique individual and, as they get older, preparing them for a successful transition to school.

We believe low ratios, passionate educators and a child-initiated curriculum are paramount. Kaiako practice is reflective of current theories of learning and development, and our programme is based on New Zealand’s Early Childhood curriculum Te Whāriki.

We aim to empower tamariki by establishing trusting, respectful and reciprocal relationships with whānau who are encouraged to share in the responsibility for teaching and learning.

We acknowledge the unique place of Māori as tangata whenua, and give tamariki the opportunity to develop knowledge and an understanding of the cultural heritage of both parties to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We promote a sustainable environment and in doing so raise children’s awareness of the importance of protecting and nurturing Papatuanuku.
